A wonderfully eclectic piece of contemporary haute horlogerie, the Quantième Semanier Perpetuelle by Geneva based independent watchmaker Vladimir Négault of rising brand Atælier Haute Complications introduces a novel twist on a classical complication, with its week number indicator complementing the perpetual calendar displays for the day, date and month.
Manufactured in a limited production of only forty-nine numbered examples, the Quantième Semanier Perpetuelle is designed and developed in-house, and features a manual winding movement which is almost entirely fabricated in German silver, and finished by hand to the exacting standards of haute horlogerie.
Presented in a rounded and polished case of 18ct white gold, which measures 44mm across and 11.3mm tall, and with its eye catching dial configuration, the watch has a distinguished presence on the wrist.
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the matte grey dial is quite busy thanks to the several indications to display the functions. Even so, it is not cluttered, and each element of the display is perfectly legible.
The hours and minutes are displayed by skeletonised blue hands on a cream coloured decentralised subdial at the six o’clock position, which features large blue arabic numerals on black backgrounds at the 3, 6, 9 and 12, with smaller numerals and a minute track also in blue. The weekday and month are shown in a pair of apertures. The date ring has a fine blue pointer, which does not obstruct any of the other functions, as does the red skeletonised pointer which indicates the week number in a double row on the outer ring, and both the date and week number pointers have retrograde mechanisms.
A sapphire caseback reveals the complex architecture and meticulous hand finishing of the manual winding movement within. With bridges reduced to the minimum, the inner workings of the mechanism are exposed in a three dimensional display of gear wheels, levers and the balance and escapement. Beating at 21,600vib/h, the movement has a power reserve of circa 42 hours.
A testament to the prodigious watchmaking talents of Vladimir Négault, and with nuances which echo the influence of his mentor François Paul Journe, the Quantième Semanier Perpetuelle is a remarkable and enchanting watch.
