The Armin Strom Dual Time Resonance White Gold watch is a masterful demonstration of the watchmaking acumen of this small, independent watchmaking company.
The end result of three years of research and development, the piece features a unique and ingenious solution to the issue of “Resonance”, which in watchmaking terms, refers to stability. In line with the ethos of the company’s eponymous founder, this model provides an unobstructed view of the technically advanced micro-components at work, enabling the wearer to become intimately involved with their timepiece.
The Armin Strom Dual Time Resonance White Gold watch has two independent mechanical movements, laid side by side on the same mainplate. In a completely harmonious relationship, their balance wheels oscillate in perfect resonance with one another, in order to produce greater stability than can be achieved with one, single balance.
Providing a direct, mechanical link between the two, Armin Strom’s patented Resonance Clutch Spring ensures that they operate in tandem, without the reliance on any external forces, which could impact on their reliability.
Such unparalleled inventiveness deserves to be showcased, so the façade of this impressive watch has been created to enable a stunning, anatomical view of the industrious motion of the cutting-edge mechanism.
At the 12 o’clock location, one can observe the lively performance of the two balance springs as they dance in unison. Between them, the incredibly fine Resonance Clutch Spring steadies the two with precise, vertical pulses. The panorama of the open-worked upper dial enhances the full visual effect of the two tiny mechanical hearts beating with one compelling rhythm.
Accompanying this stunning animation, two exquisite blue guilloché dials enable the wearer to read the time in two different time zones. Each has been endowed with a traditional rail-track for the minutes, and Roman numerals at each hour.
At the 6 o’clock location each dial has its own dedicated power reserve indicator. Interlocking with the two, a guillochéd dial at the 6 o’clock location, serves as a 24-hour day/night indication.
The side-by-side architecture of this astounding timepiece engendered the need for a voluminous housing, and this Dual Time Resonance carries a generous 59mm x 43.4mm oval watch case, constructed from 18-carat white gold. Contrasting superbly with the stunning blue guilloché work, the pristine, precious metal also gives this impressive piece a contemporary feel.
Independent time setting of the two dials is possible via dedicated crowns at the 2 o’clock and the 10 o’clock locations. And, at 6 o’clock, the distinctive Armin Strom protruding tab proclaims the provenance of the model while offering its wearer the possibility of a bespoke, personalised engraving.
Turn the piece over and a new, fascinating dimension of the watch is revealed. Here, a quartet of barrels dominates the scene, against a background of circular hand-decoration. Each movement is powered by its own pair of barrels, in an arrangement which sends power only to their dedicated oscillator, avoiding any impact on the resonance.
Enabling a power reserve of 110 hours, each movement is powered by its own pair of barrels, in an arrangement which sends power only to their dedicated oscillator, to avoid any impact on the resonance. Together their open-worked structure tells the inside story of mechanical wizardry, as all four turn in unison when the wearer winds the watch. Elsewhere, a glimpse of the rear-side of each power reserve mechanism is an additional, eye-pleasing feature.
Presented on a black alligator leather strap, the technically complex Armin Strom Dual Time Resonance White Gold model is a timepiece which, in every respect, defines avant-garde Haute Horlogerie
