At the heart of the watch is a poetic, yet highly complex mechanical complication conceived by Master Watchmaker, Rémi Maillot, Krayon’s founder, wherein each Anywhere timepiece can be set up to the owner’s specification to replicate with accuracy the seasonal spread of daylight and darkness at a specific “home’ location throughout the year. In addition to the original atelier settings, the watch can be recalibrated on request to a new ‘home’ location by a straightforward adjustment by the watchmaker.
Complementing the technical characteristics of this model, the exquisite dial surface is a miniature Métiers d’Art interpretation of Henri Rousseau’s ‘The Virgin Forest at Sunset’. Achieved entirely by hand it comprises of 575 individually hollowed-out alveoli, into which the enamelling artist has deposited varying shades of green, brown, and yellow to recall the organic quality of the foliage used in the original artwork, while vivid orange-red tones against a background of blue and white evokes the setting sun to superb effect.
Around the periphery of the dial, the ring which displays the diurnal and nocturnal sectors is rendered in deep green and white, with the crisp edge between the two serving to indicate the time of the sunrise and sunset via the rehaut. Completing this charming display, a little sun also passes around the dial in a twenty four hour cycle, moving across the daytime ‘sky’ and then, as darkness falls, over the panel of deep green which is enhanced with tiny Super-LumiNova stars.
Against the artistry of the dial, the polished hour and minutes hands stand out beautifully, while at six o’clock a subdial houses the date and month indication, with easy adjustment enabled via the crown.
The watch is housed within a case of gleaming platinum (Pt 950), sized at 39mm diameter with a height of only 9.5mm, featuring a squat, fluted crown and a concave bezel. Through the rear sapphire crystal, the immaculate hand finishing and anglage which adorns every surface and angle of the C030 manual winding movement can be appreciated. Entirely designed and developed in-house, it stands at only 5mm tall and beats at a leisurely 21’600 vib/h (3Hz), boasting an impressive power reserve of 72 hours.
An exceptional example of independent Haute Horlogerie, the Krayon Anywhere Arborea Métiers d’Art watch is released in a limited edition of only 15 pieces and the model comes presented on a black leather strap secured with a platinum pin buckle.
Instantly recognisable, and adored by collectors around the world, Konstantin Chaykin’s ‘Wrist Monster’ series of timepieces has become an icon of contemporary independent watchmaking. Known
